Amidst all the art depression I’ve been going through after looking at my old works lately, I couldn’t help but compare the way I used to draw Ryou and Mariku’s hairstyles from last year to this year.

…I really need to improve in drawing these two dorks this year.

I love how Marik just gets more fluffy and Ryou seems to get more pointy. It’s like they are becoming more like the other and being cute little dorks~

Does Seto ever try anything new with his hair and does Siegfried just softly chuckle and put it back how he likes it instead?

owlteria:

Seto likes his hair the way it is. I would say…Siegfried is the one who puts cute accessoires into Setos hair when his bangs are getting too long. (Ofc only to make sure they won’t hide his pretty blue eyes which Siegfried fangirls loves so much ahaha.)

*snort* It is beautiful but I can see why Seto would not be pleased as well XD

[AU]

I don’t even know why it took him seven years to write his name on a gift and I am clueless in what I drew sorry but he owns up to it this time, lol.

(And it’s Valentines’ because I want some reciprocation on White day.)

I imagine that since it took Ryou seven years it went like one year was just sheer awful doubt he could do it after what happened last time.
The second year he is planning to do it but then spaced till the day of and had nothing.
Third and forth year he had picked something out and was going to give it to Mariku but was swarmed by annoying fangirls that just refused to get out of his way despite pleading and fake “I need to use the bathroom” attempts but they ignore him and this is where Miho get’s her weird misinformation from.
Fifth year Mariku wasn’t even at school because he somehow got really sick and couldn’t go.
Sixth year there was just nothing he could find interesting enough to give.
And finally on the seventh he had it. The perfect gift, no one blocking him, Mariku was in today, and… The only thing in his way now was himself.

Ryou swallowed and made his way on over only to trip over a random backpack sitting on the floor near an empty desk. The box fell from his hands but it caught Marik’s attention and he looks up from his latest drawing to see Ryou’s nervously collecting himself back up, looking as if he were about to cry for some reason. The lack of people near him suggests that it wasn’t bullies but rather Ryou’s natural curse of clumsiness. He always was a klutzy little nerd.
The only thing out of place was him collecting something and holding it so close. Gods- did he get another one of those stupid valentines? How revolting.
He looks back towards his drawing and began to crosshatch a part of it only to realize Ryou was at his desk now and talking to him. Mariku stops again and looks up to see the box being held out to him and dully stares at it till told to take it. He does though is thinking little of it till he sees the tag and has the urge to toss the box across the room and make a scene but decided to open it the last second and a new dawning hits him.
This was really happening. He goes to thank Ryou but Mariku looks up only to notice the other is gone completely out of sight. Then it hits him.

Shit. I have just a month to come up with something.

I think I am the only person to think of Marik as his hikari’s protector who takes things to an awful extreme and doesn’t grasp when a plan has changed but here me out…
Imagine Malik, who is afraid of the dark, to be on the verge of tears and breaking down only for Mariku to slip on into the room and want to be comforting be he doesn’t do touchy-feely things like hugs but instead sits in his own corner and softly starts singing The Light by Disturbed to him. His own voice oddly soft but rusty as if he hasn’t used it much.

Yeah… little things like that that put him out of his own comfort zone in favor to make sure Malik will be okay amuses me…

It confuses me on why do some people call Marik the dark one and Malik the good one or Marik the good one and Malik the dark one. For someone who hasn’t seen yugioh, but reads a lot.. it confuses me also why is yami Marik called Malik…

milliekou:

I’m not sure but I think Marik is just a variant of the Arabic name, Malik (

ملك)

. It’s just the Japanese don’t have an L in their language system so their L turns into an R so the audience/readers get quite confused in that aspect. Although I got informed by an Arab friend that there are variants of the name Malik which include Marik so either name is cool. I use the name, Marik for the light one and Mariku for his dark half, though. ( I use Mariku, no matter how weaboo-ish it sounds because there’s this certain personality whenever I think of that name. )

What’s interesting is that Yami Marik doesn’t have an (official) name.

That’s the reason why a lot of people have all sorts of (nick)names for him and you’re free to name him (and train)  like some sort of pokemon, lol. You can name him whatever you want, Mariku, Malik, Marik, Tategami, Kek, John Cena, etc…whatever comes to your mind.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! *tackles and adopts in a nanosecond*

Seriously though, allow Terra to explain a few things.

The thing is Marik IS Malik in every sense of the word. Marik is everything Malik ever wanted to be, could be, and hoped to become. (Not necessarily a murderer but free, confident, strong, and so very much alive and allowed to do anything he wanted with no limitations.)
But since he still had lingering feelings for his father he could not kill him but his hatred was too strong. That with the lifestyle he had growing up that he came to loath combined with the dark ritual carved into his back, this allowed an outlet that allowed Marik to be. You see, they are still the same person and that is why even the other characters in the show are always saying “Malik’s dark half” and not any other name.

As for the fans though, well we were sick of saying “Malik’s dark half” when writing fanfiction or roleplaying that we decided since Malik was a real name as well as the name given to him in Japanese that it would belong to the one who was there first and seen as the good side.
Marik was the dub name and we all liked it because it was nice and easy to say but it still looked very similar to Malik in written works so half of us adopted adding a u to the end and took to calling him Mariku since it was easier to spot and tell the difference.

The newer fans to this great fandom though seem to find that silly or have no idea of our ancient ways so they took to calling him other names and calling Malik by the name Marik because that is the way of the Abridged series for when it came out years later.

I hope this was informative.
