“It’s a rainbow, it’s a roof, it’s a tree? This 144-year-old Wisteria located in Japan looks nothing like your ordinary tree. With branches protruding out half-a-mile long, standing beneath this tree makes you truly feel like you’ve slipped into another world. A world where an enchanted pink sky hangs like a canopy overhead.
The pink and purple blooms typical to the wisteria tree are spread wildly throughout, extending far and wide. The ginormous vines stretching out of the tree are held up by steel rods placed throughout. Otherwise, the weight of the branches would cause the tree to collapse in on itself–potentially trapping awed visitors inside!
In all seriousness, the steel rods make it possible to venture beneath this tree and see how stunning it looks from the underside. From inside, the light pours in through the brightly colored vines, reflecting off of the flowers in unimaginable ways.
There are wisteria trees in many parts of the world, but one of the most well-known gorgeous giants is located at Ashikaga Flower Park. After looking at these photos I’m ready to book the next flight to Japan!
Planted around the year 1870, this tree has since brought so much delight. The wisteria is at its peak beauty between mid-April and mid-May.
Tourists and locals come to visit this tree, the sights that it offers never get old. Not only is the tree fun to gawk at from all angles, but the vines give off a lovely aroma, reminiscent of grapes.
I love this photo (above) because you can actually see the tree branch in all its curved glory. It’s not really a tree branch but rather a tangle of thick vines. Either way, the trunk’s shape makes this tree all the more mystical in my eyes.
You can see the rods supporting the heavy vines of the wisteria, wisteria that do not have a surface to grow up, or support them, will fall and start to grow into a large heap.
Depending on what time of day you visit, the lighting changes offering a world of diversity. Beware, even though this tree appears beautiful the seeds that it sheds are actually poisonous.
A part of the pea family, the light brown to pale green seeds shed by the wisteria are rather large. Not only are they poisonous, but they are also explosive. When left out unattended, they are known to explode, popping open and splitting apart with a loud sound.
Wisterias look like they have regular tree branches, but they are actually vines. These vines can climb up any nearby support systems, and can grow as tall as 20 meters.
Within only a few years a wisteria can gain a substantial amount of weight. Still, the wisteria will take its time developing to the point where it produces blooms, some take several years. Don’t give up on your wisteria tree just yet, others take as long as 6-10 years to bloom. According to these images, it’s well worth the wait.
Japan’s large wisteria is not the only one, nor is it the largest. There is a wisteria located in Sierra Madre, California that stretches an entire mile long and weighs over 250 tons. This wisteria was planted back in 1894.
If you don’t live close to any huge wisteria trees, at least you can plant and grow your own wisteria. Within one year they can grow 10 feet!
Wisterias aren’t all that hard to look after either, according to the US Plant Hardiness scale they are one tough hunk of bark! Even capable of growing in soil that is of poor quality.

The details in this are so well done that I am having trouble finding words. His lower legs being wet with water from the spray cause by running, the water itself with the reflections, ripples, and spray, those beautiful flipping birds with the one more out of focus because it’s closer and not the main subject, the folds in fabric, that ridiculous hair made more real, all that time to spend on that horse alone to give it tone and depth and enough texture to look soft like one, the way the wind makes both their hair fly back along with the cape and the soft hues of the sky showing it clearly is a morning ride and not a nightfall one… Gods damn it- this whole thing is just masterful!

So I’m in the mood for doodling lots of Deathshipping shit and I’m really f*ckin’ thirsty for High School / College/ Neighborhood AU scenarios. (Or you can combine all three. I know they’re cliche and overused but I’m a huge sucker for these stuff tbh and I miss interacting with my deathship followers here.)

So… *slides in and tosses two cents onto the floor between us* Get ready for a ramble I’ve been thinking of for a while.
I’ve been hung up on High School AU crap and I know you said Deathshipping- and it totally can still happen but I was honestly thinking of Powershipping when I came up with it so forgive me in advance.
But school plays are a weakness of mine. So I like to imagine Seto being forced into trying out for at least one after school thing by his step-dad as a form of self entitlement and being about to boast that his stepchild is amazing and can do anything thrown his way. So Seto decided to go for the school play and Malik who is crushing on him decides he can try to swing that to. He’s an honor student and kind of stressed out but seeing Seto sign up for it means that if he does too he can be near him more and maybe practice lines with him, perfect!
Pegasus is directing it. I couldn’t think of a more perfect fit who adores costumes and over the top musical numbers.
Amen, the Ishtar dad, finds out and says Malik can’t do it unless he can get Mariku to go to. He is confident his youngest won’t go but after much pleading and then bribery, Mariku agrees to at least show for the audition but inwardly he is desperately hoping for something to go wrong and just /maybe/ his perfect little brother will not get a part and feel awful like he himself does all the time.
Upon audition though, Malik discovers that Seto is auditioning for a minor part and is actually helping out with tech stuff for the most part. That is a bit of a buzz kill but if Malik can nail the main character part then Seto will be forced to see just how amazing he is!
(I am so sorry for all the Powershipping stuff but if I recall correctly, you kinda like this shit, eh?)
Try outs go over well but Pegasus asks what Mariku is doing there and he just straight up admits he is there because he has to be or Malik can’t be part of it. This strikes Pegasus as weird but he just grins because at least they are getting along for once.
So, last calls come down/ Seto got his minor role and technician, he is pleased. The main character casting is coming down to it’s end and Malik has been practicing with a grumpy Mariku for some time just to get the lines down for the one music number that should seal the deal but Malik starts to choke before he can start it which annoys his brother deeply and causes him to get on stage. Malik is nearly on tears from embarrassment. Marik was wrong. He wanted him to fail but if he’s going to get all emotional about it then he’ll bail him out. “You did not waste my time just to fail this,” Mariku growls as he gets up and joins Malik on stage shoving his on one shoulder. “Now fucking sing, Dr. Jekyll!”
Mariku jumping in as Mr. Hyde because he /had/ to memories the part so Malik could be Dr. Jekyll. And as they finish, Pegasus is delighted and is standing up clapping. “You’ve got it, both of you!”
Malik is thrilled but Marik is just “What- I didn’t. No!” But because Amen said Mariku had to go too before he ends up getting roped into the play. Practices goes rather well and getting to fake murder classmates is amazing.
How does Ryou fit in this? He was working on staging. Painting and building props while admiring Mariku from behind the curtain when he is practicing. Gods, Mariku’s raspy singing voice just makes his little heart flutter.
But good things break and I am a demon so naturally the Ishtar boys end up in a fight before the big night. Both at the other’s throat. “You think you’re so perfect! I can be the good guy too. You can’t even begin to pretend to play the role of a monster, you pretentious little prick!”
The argument is out of control and the show is about to start now.
“I can to. Anything you can do, I can so better!” They practically butt heads in rage.
“Fine! You think you got this? Then let’s trade!”
“What?”
“I’ll be Jekyll and you be Hyde.”
The curtain is about to open. They are being called into places. Malik wasted all the time and Seto hardly noticed him. Maybe… What harm can it do other then to show up his idiot brother? “Fine.”
They trade roles since both know the other’s part but Mariku freezes upon seeing the confused others on stage. Fuck. Fuck! Father is even there and he looks unimpressed as ever. Suddenly it clicks and he in back into swing. Everything went surprising well though many whisper “What is going on?” but certain victims swoon when Malik shows up to kill them making it awkward but the show much go on.
Anyway, at the end, Seto tells Malik he was impressed but Ryou is just ecstatic. “You were amazing but I…” But? Mariku’s heart kind of sinks. “But I was really hoping to see you as Mr. Hyde. Malik just doesn’t fit the role right.” To which he beams. Finally. Someone thinks he fit better. Sure it was as the monsterous side but that doesn’t matter because not just does someone see him as good at something but Ryou does!
